Getting Ready to Say Goodbye

This season has gone by so quickly, and it is rapidly coming to a close. We had our senior game two weeks ago and it was really emotional. There are 3 of us seniors on the team and it is really weird that this is our last year and we will never play lacrosse competitively again. It is a strange feeling. We’re trying not to get too emotional because we still have the rest of our season to focus on.

We also had our senior/alumni banquet last weekend at Eli’s on Whitney. The entire team was there as well as some of our alumni and our parents. The underclassmen made us scrapbooks of our four years playing lacrosse and got us all really nice gifts. Out of all my 5 years playing lacrosse I think that this is one of the closest teams that I’ve ever been on. We are all really good friends off the field and I think that helps on the field. It is unusal to have a team where the seniors are so close with the younger girls, but there are only three of us, so we’ve really bonded with the younger girls. Most of these girls are my best friends and we have a great team camaraderie. The banquet was really nice, but it was also kind of weird cause I can remember sitting at the banquet when I was a freshman thinking it was so far away, and like its my last year and that feels like yesterday. But it’s been a great season and when it’s over the three of us seniors will be able to look back and cherish it but for now we have to try to stay focus and win an NEC Championship!!

Looking Ahead to the NEC’s

After finishing out the season at UCONN Tuesday night, we are ready to get down to Maryland and play in this NEC Championship! I can’t believe it is already the end of the season; it has gone by sooo quickly. We had a rough couple of games to end the season. We had two very long road trips in a row, and I think we became a little tired and we were playing flat. Last weekend we went to Monmouth for a huge NEC game that we lost, and then we traveled upstate NY to Colgate and lost there as well. We just played really flat and the team was just kind of burned out. After a day off on Monday, we came out rejuvenated and played really well against UCONN. They are top 20 in the nation so we knew it was going to be a tough game, but we played really well and it was a great tune-up for our weekend. We are playing Mount St. Mary’s on Friday and it should be a really good game. We lost our regular season match up with them, 9-8, and it was a game that we really should have won. But we are playing a lot better now then we were back in the beginning of the season when we first played Mount. It should be a great game, and I know the team is really excited to get down there. We’ve lost in the NEC semi-finals for the past two years and I know this year everyone really wants to get over that hump. We are leaving really early Thursday morning to get down to Maryland and practice and get ready for our game on Friday. If we come out firing and play well as a team, I think we have a great chance to make it to the finals!!!

Making NEC’s

We’ve finished our regular season and after closing out the season with a record of 9-8 and 5-3 in the NEC’s, the Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse team has qualified for the NEC tournament. The tournament starts on Friday, April, 27, 2007. Mount Saint Mary’s will be this year’s conference host. The schedule for Friday is Quinnipiac vs. Mount St. Mary’s at 1pm and then Sacred Heart vs. Monmouth at 3pm. The winner of those two games will play each other for the championship on Sunday, April 29, 2007. The team is really excited to get down there and play the tournament.

Winding Down the Regular Season

On Tuesday Night we had our regular season finale against UCONN. It was their senior day and the game was played under the lights. UCONN is ranked number 19 in the nation and they are a really good team, so it was a great test for us. We came out and held our own and I was really proud of the way we played. We ended up losing 13-7 but it was a well fought game. We played them in the fall and lost 21-3, so it was a big improvement. We had a tough last couple of games, losing our last three, so it was nice to come out and really gel as a team. Even though we didn’t win, it was a great tune-up for our NEC championship tournament this upcoming weekend. The whole team is really excited about it and I think we have an excellent chance going in.

Jumping into NEC action

Our NEC games started last Friday, when we played at Central Connecticut State. We won 9-6. They were a very conservative team, who held the ball a lot when they had it, so it was a semi-low scoring game. It wasn’t exactly our best effort or the prettiest win, but a win is a win and we will take it. We played horribly in the first half, but came back after getting screamed at during half-time and really played well.

On Sunday, LIU came to Hamden for our second straight NEC game. We knew this was a big game but we were ready for it. We came out really strong and ended up winning 16-8. We played really well as a team and several girls on the team had career days. We also broke a school record, by having this be our 5th consecutive win at home. We go on the road again this weekend, but we will hope to continue that win streak when we are home again next week.

We have two more NEC games this weekend as we travel to Pennsylvania and Pittsburg. We are 2-0 thus far in the NEC and we hope to keep it up!

Spring Break

We had a really busy spring break week; I’m actually kind of excited that it’s over. We had two games over the week, so we had two overnight trips and then stayed in Hamden for the rest of it. I kind of like the campus over spring break because it was just us and the men’s lacrosse team, so it’s nice and quiet. We had team meals, practice and lifting everyday we didn’t have a game, so we were on campus from about 9am to 6pm everyday. It was kind of a long day, but it was a good because we really bonded as a team because we were around each other so much.

On Tuesday morning we left for Philadelphia, for our game against LaSalle. We practiced at LaSalle when we got there and then went to the King of Prussia mall. It was a huge mall and a lot of fun; we spend about 3 hours there and just went shopping. Our game on Wednesday against LaSalle was really good. It was about 72 degrees at game time, which was a nice change from the freezing cold weather we had been playing in.

The warm weather would not last however, because Friday we got about a foot and a half of snow and had to practice inside. We left for Boston Saturday morning to play Harvard on Sunday. Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, we were supposed to walk around Boston after we practiced but it was so cold and rainy that we ended up just going back to the hotel. The game on Sunday was against Harvard was horrible. It was about 20 degrees and snowing the entire time. It was a huge difference from when we were playing in the warm weather just four days earlier!

All in all it was a good break, but our schedule was intense so it will be nice to get back into our normal daily routine. We had off on Monday and will practice the rest of the week to get ready for our game on Friday!

Game vs. Manhattan

We won our game on Sunday, beating Manhattan College 10-9. Overall we played a pretty sloppy game and we were lucky to escape with a win. We were up in the second half by as many as 6 goals and we let them back into the game. But a win is still a win, no matter how ugly, and it’s nice to start the season off 1-0. We had to have a short practice today because it was negative 10 degrees today with the wind chill and were not allowed to be outside for very long. We travel to New York City tomorrow, to play Columbia for our second game. It is supposed to be another very cold day, and there is even snow in the forecast. Hopefully we’ll be able to get the game in and we can come out with another win!!

Lacrosse Blog

We had our first scrimmage of the season on Sunday vs. CW Post. We ended up winning 12-11. It was pretty close the entire game. The scrimmage was our only tune-up before our games start next Sunday, and it was good to play someone else besides ourselves. It’s a good guage to see where we are coming up to the start of the season, and I think we are in pretty good shape. It snowed again yesterday so we were unable to go outside. The weather this preseason has been pretty rough. But they’ve been working on the turf and I think we should be good to go by Tuesday. Practicing inside is just not the same. So we’ve started our final week of preseason!! Can’t wait for the game Sunday!

Eating Out this Holiday Season?

According to MSNBC.com article, 300 people fell ill while eating at an Olive Garden in Indianapolis. The Health Department is investigating and so far, all health code violations have been met.

TiVo the Internet?

TiVo has announced plans to create a way to TiVo downloaded videos from the internet and watch them through the television set. This way you can see things on the internet through the quality of your televsion. I am continually amazed at the techology they keep coming out with, and if this works, it will be really interesting to see what happens with it.
